Rational. The colonists were denied proper representation in the English Parliament, which angered more than a fair share of the colonists because of the massive taxes being collected from them without equal representation of homeland english citizens, which is what the colonists wanted to be treated like. The claimed that taxation without representation was tyranny, as they were denied representation in parliament by the strong central government, ala the king (back when the king had actual power). This started this whole little conflict known as the American Revolution which I'm asuming you have heard of.

I figure this is a question for school or something. What they're asking you refers to why Americans feared to revolt against their "homeland," England. Did it really have to do with a fear of a strong central government? Well, maybe... but you gotta figure out your own opinion.

As far as what I personally think, I think that it was a rational fear for strong central government, having come from a land (Europe) that at the time was full of revolutions and religious persecution. Many Americans also feared that by separating from their fatherland they would be doomed....

Because they were fighting a strong central government IE monarchy. And yes the fear was justified, no government should ever be allowed that much power.

Because they had endured enough under the British monarchy. Even the Brits have acted over time to bring the monarchy under control, so Queen Elizabeth and the future Kings and Queens of England are essentially figureheads.

they remembered what it was like to have a king. bad bad bad. they were warranted in their fears based upon their own experiences and that of their forefathers.
