My first was 10lb 10oz, my second was 10lb 9 oz. The second one was a breeze to deliver.

That's like a month old baby! My son was 7lbs, 13oz, and his cousin weighed 7lbs, 12oz , soI think that that is about a normal weight.
When doctors say 'big baby' I think that that refers to anything more than about 8 and 1/2. If the Dr. thinks that the baby is getting too big, he'll do an ultrasound and reccomend a c-section if he thinks they'll be trouble delivering vaginally.
It doesn't matter how much weight you gain or what you eat during pregnancy, as this had no effect on the baby. Unless of course you malnourish yourself, but I don't think anyone here is in danger of that.
If you are diabetic, or get gestational diabetes, then you are at risk for having a too big baby, and the doctors will monitor you closely, and probably induce labor early, or schedule a c-section.
I think that this is a pretty common fear, and most likely you'll have the perfect - and little- angel.

Wow that is a big baby! Did your friend get tested for gestational diabetes? Usually when babies go over nine pounds that is a factor in why...
I have three kids...my smallest was 8 lbs 9 oz and my largest was 9 lbs 5 oz. I was borderline on the gestational diabetes. If you are concerned, talk to either your doctor or your doctors nurse. So long as you are getting routine medical care and all your test results came back good...then everything will be just fine..congratulations to you and your family.
Eleven pounds is not a big baby--it is a HUGE baby, and very uncommon.

This is huge for a new born! My 1 year old weighed that much when he was 3 1/2 months. Average weight for a new born is between 6-8 pounds. The doctors told me when they did an ultrasound at 8 months that my baby was already 5 pounds, but that wasn't right, because he was 5pounds 6ozs. at birth. the doctors aren't always right. Don't worry. First pregnancies we do tend to gain more weight because we don't know any better, but your friend must have Over done it. You'll be fine

Have you asked your mother how much you weighed as a baby? How about your brothers/sisters? In general you can expect your baby to weigh about the same. I was 9 pounds at birth. My first child was 9 lbs 1 oz. My second child was 8 lbs 13 oz. I had both naturally by the way.
So look to genetics to give you an idea of what to expect. Or you could ask your doctor just how big he expects your baby to be and what he'll do to make sure you don't have any problems during the delivery. I trusted my doctor to take good care of me during delivery and he did.

Sweetheart...11lbs. is a great big ol' baby...the rate of incline of baby weights in the U.S. has climbed almost 2.5 pounds in 25 years...
Don't fret...there are beautiful drugs they can give you that will harm neither you or the baby...
If you want to be completely natural, you will have a better time afterward...
You will be just fine...
Think of it this way...1 in 4 people will have a baby over 8lbs...your friend helped your odds for a smaller baby...
Good Luck...
...I have 3 myself...14 (7lbs9oz)...13(7lbs11oz)...7(8lbs8oz)...
now I am done...

11 lbs is huge. Usually if a baby is over 10 lbs, a c-section is mandatory because the baby can not come out otherwise.
I was born 6 lbs, and was considered very tiny, and underweight. The average weight for a baby is 7 lbs. 8 lbs is good, too. 9 lbs is already big. 10 lbs is huge, and over 10 lbs is a monster!

How much she overate has noting to do with the baby's size. Yes, she did have a BIG baby but some people do. I thought my last two were on the big big big side at 9lb 6 oz and 8 lb 12 oz but she's got me beat and I sure wouldn't want to try to beat her record.

I had a 10 pounder and a 8 pounder. Both births were okay to me. I had an epidural and everybody is still wondering how I did it. But its really about the epidural. Anyway, no its not common for babies to be that big. Your doctor should be able to calculate babies weight as time comes closer and then you should ask for other ways to have your child if baby seems to big for a natural birth. If you have your baby the natural way, don't be afraid to ask for drugs to make it easier on you. Good luck!

No this isn't too big of a baby. Your friend's child will probably loose a pound or two because of fluid in the newborn. You should'nt be afraid your baby will be huge! Sometimes doctors say that when a baby will weigh probably 8 pounds.
