The Cougar is the same vehicle as the Ford Contour not the ZX2. The safety recalls are still in effect on your vehicle, the safety recalls do not expire. Take it to the dealer and have them performed if they have not been done.

Contact a Ford dealer, and have them check the VIN number for outstanding recalls.

As to legal help, unless you have a warranty, bought as is, and now own the car! If you have a warranty, contact the selling dealer for repairs!!

Fire4511 has the right approach to the problem. Contact a Ford dealer and they can run the vin and tell you if those things still need to be taken care of or not.

Those things are awful. They're basically an Escort ZX-2.

Get rid of it, whatever year it is.
