On a regular basis, check that the Antivirus and Spyware programs are up to date.
Run Scandisk and Defrag, actually read the reports to see if any errors are being produced.
Open the case at least twice per year, and blow out all the fans, and heatsinks. Make sure the fans start up smoothly, and are spinning quickly.
If you have a program like Symantec's Systemworks, run the Windoctor feature to clean up the registry.
Also, every few months review your Add/Remove programs, and remove unwanted/unused programs.
Windows Updates, make sure they are checked OFTEN.
And the most important check.. make sure the user gets plenty of rest, gets a little education, and is nice to his PC.
P.S. Don't smoke by that computer, if you've never seen the inside of a smoker's computer, trust me, IT'S DISGUSTING.

Well, simply, make sure that anti-virus is installed and updated, and is scheduled to scan daily. Same with anti-spyware. Make sure that you have a good firewall. Make sure that your operating system is receiving the updates from Microsoft. These fix big problems. Make sure that your cookies and temp files are staying clean. I use ccleaner for this. Go to their website and download and install it. It oes into your recycle bin... right click on the bin, and run it. Keep unneccessary files off of the desktop. Uninstall programs that you don't use. Use a system optimizer, like tune-up utilities. That should be more than enough to keep your pc trouble free for years... oh, and don't open emails from people you don't know, or downoad files from P2P networks unless you know exactly what they are. Scan anything that you download before you unzip it.... never download an .exe. Or, you can do all of these things the easy way....

I would tell you step by step like everyone else did but you can do all those steps in one single program. EasyCleaner
Go to google.com and search Download EasyCleaner. Download it and run all the options, delete anything that comes up, restart your computer. Do this about every 2 weeks. It should make your computer run alot better.

1.buy a DECENT antivirus program..not just a free one
2.Run spyware removal programs regularly
3.Do a defrag every month
4.Never download from shareware sites like Limewire or Bearshare and NEVER download from Crack/keygen websites
5.Open the tower case and dust regularly...most importantly check the fan and heatsink on the CPU..use long soft paintbrush to do this
6.Keep liquids away from the pc
7.Talk nicely to it at least once a day:)

virus scan, hard drive defrag, disc cleanup, checkdisc utility for file system integrity, spyware scanner. Those are the ones I do. It's usually good to do a complete drive format and reinstall windows fresh about once a year for best performance, and just to "clean out your closet" so to speak.

If you download all these programs that claim to "tune-up" your PC, you're asking for trouble.
