It's not a bone, I don't know why it's called that. Ever hit your funny bone? It's a bare nerve, and accidentally hitting it against something isn't anywhere near funny. Ow!

I am not completely certain why it's called the "funny bone", but it could be because the real name of it is Humerous. Either that, or because it feels really odd, or funny, when you hit it. Who knows, maybe because of both?

Good question. There is nothing funny about it, when you bang it on something. it hurts real bad. It brings tears to your eyes like when you laugh til you cry. maybe thats why they call it a funny bone. do ya think?

they look humorous, yet in a wierd instead of humorous way. And those they outfitted interior the 1960's while the term originated have been often plenty greater strange than those right this moment - some had the roof bumped off and altered with a Batmobile-type windshield, others appeared like Jeeps stretched to vehicle length or had intake manifolds bigger than the roofline.

A lot of good comments and one mis-spelling. Actually, the Latin bone is the humerus. I presume a doctor told his patient that the bone was the humerus and the patient understood humorous, the homophone.
SYLLABICATION: hu·mer·us
PRONUNCIATION: hymr-s
NOUN: Inflected forms: pl. hu·mer·i (-m-r)
The long bone of the arm or forelimb, extending from the shoulder to the elbow.
ETYMOLOGY: Latin, upper arm.
