I was wondering if it was located below your stomach, or smack even with your belly button.

When you give or get your measurements there are 3 numbers - Breast, Waist, Hips. If you have ever looked at a diagram that illustrates them you will see the breast measure up high, the waist measurement where you are smallest around the torso (usually just below the ribs) and the hips at the hip bones.

I am surprised to see so many people say "just above the hips". Just because the top of girls jeans is sitting in that spot these days, that does not mean it is the waist (even if it is labelled as such on the garment - that is just industry standard to include a number, never mind that it should be omitted on a garment that does not even approach the waist).

Peace!

Great question!

A person's waistline varies between people depending on how they are built..

Hopefully this answer will help everyone learn the "Scientific" way to find their waistline that I used when conducting human clinical research trials

Here is a detailed version of determining your exact waistline measurement (it helps to have somebody else make the markings, holding the measuring tape):

1. Find the lowest point of your ribs on each side (for most people when you bend to the sides, this is where the crease is).
- Mark that spot/crease with an oil pencil on both the left and right side of your torso.

3. Find the top of you hipbones (aka iliac crest) at your side (not in the front or back - find it at your SIDE).
- Mark the iliac crest with an oil pencil on both the left and right side of your torso

4. Using a measuring tape, find the midway point between the two marks you made on each side (the two marks should be approx vertical). Mark the midway point on both sides.

5. Now, wrap the tape measure around the waist so that it's over both midway marks. Pull taut, not tight. It shouldn't dig into your skin, but it shouldn't be loose either.

6.Take a deep breathe in, let the air out slowly while relaxing your abdominal muscles. Allow the measuring tape to adjust to the expansion of your waist by holding the one end more loosely than the other.

Once you have relaxed and the tape measure is in place (not too tight or loose) then you have taken an accurate measurement of your waistline.

Cheers :)

You find your natural waist by locating the top of your hip bone and starting at the belly button when the two meet @ your natural waist!

Your natural waist line should be located around 1 inch below your rib cage.

At the smallest part of your middle, on most people it's a little above the navel, or right at the top of it.
For measuring:
When you bend to the sides, mark the crease with something, make some old makeup you have lying around. Bend to both sides if you are measuring yourself so that you know that you are getting the best chance of an accurate measurement. Wrap the tape measure (not a fabric one, they can stretch) around the waist so that it's on both lines. Pull taut, not tight. It shouldn't dig into your skin, but it shouldn't be loose either. If your skin is bulging over and under, it's too tight. If the tape slips, it's too loose.

Everyone's waistline is different, it can be above or below your belly button. It is usually the spot where you are thinnest, just below your ribcage. A lot of people are the same all the way around though, so try bending at your side and the point wherever you're bending is the waist.

Dear, It is smack even with your bellybutton. Waist sizes very so it seems to be in different places, however, in God's infinite wisdom, He/She put it right where your bellybutton is because that is where you were nurtured from your Mom. That is why it is called the Belly Button which is the focal point of your waist!

It's near your belly button, where your curve starts. Your hips are right at your hip bones, and depending on your torso length, your waist is 2-3 inches higher than that.

Smack even with your belly button. Interestingly, women's belly buttons are higher up on the abdomen than men's, but the bellybutton marks the waistline on both men and women.
