Ok, first off.. they are both very good companies with good support. If you're talking about their consumer lines, then Dell wins.

If you're talking about their business lines HP kills Dell. HP Service and Support for Business is far superior to Dell's. How do I know? I service the darn things, every day, for years and years..

Now, about the one comment that Dell uses HP parts earlier in this Q&A.. that's FUNNY. I've never found an HP part in a Dell computer.

Now if you want to compare the two of them to the rest of the industry.. You're going to look long and hard to find anyone else as reliable as those two.

P.S. If you're really serious about good computers, take a really serious look at HP's XW Series of computers. They flat out ROCK! Extremely Fast, and Optimized.

Hp, no questions asked. Which will serve you better though? Dell, definitely. Dell has good support. Some of their warrenties cover almost anything. They also sometimes have some good deals on thier desktops price-wise.
Hp however has much more stable desktops that will probably last you a lot longer than dell's, even after the warrenty expires.

All comes down to how much you know about computers. IF you know nothing > go with the dell. Otherwise, go with HP.

hope this helps.

Mac hands down. You don't need to worry about all the things you worry about with pc's. But if you really want either HP or Dell, go with HP, Dell does not have a great reputation, you will be replacing it in about 2 years.

Dell's are SO overrated!! An HP is just as good, not as expensive, and their support is far more superior than Dell.
I have a 2001 Compaq witch I got for free since my mom bought a Dell . I have had less trouble with mine, and still have better support service through HP, than my mom does with her Dell. Not only that, my Compaq runs faster and more efficient than her 4 year newer PC.

I prefer the more expensive Dells. The cheap Dells are no better than the HPs you see in stores.

we want greater documents with reference to the computers, the only distinction we are able to determine between them is the three hundred mhz distinction in processor velocity. Are they AMD or Intel chips? To make a greater clever judgement call we'd desire to renowned the quantity of reminiscence and complicatedcontinual area. What video card? What motherboard? What power grant? a sturdy pc has balanced aspects each and each of ways around, some thing dell and hp have not found out yet.

Hp all the way! I love their stuff. I don't like Dell for some reason though...

Don't go dell. Actually go to Best Buy and check out anything with an Athlon X2 processor. To be honest, as a professional PC builder... order a custom system from http://www.systemaxpc.com/. You can get good PCs at low prices via tigerdirect.com from systemax.

Don't get a Mac. Windows sucks, I'll say that for certain but Mac OS is much much worse. I have had less problems with my XP than my friend has with his macbook.

I think it would be Dell. I like to save money so here is a trick I do. Go to Dell's web page and build a desktop like you want. Print the page and take it to one of your local computer stores and they will build you one like it for less money.
Even better try several stores and see where you can get the best price.

When Hp makes things they take shortcuts that's why they are so cheap and unreliable i would recommend you get a dell they never have any problems.
