yah, you want a video capture card, which plugs into the agp (slot) (i think it's brown color, so if you don't have this open slot you can't use one). this card will convert the ANALOG signal (from video player) to DIGITAL signals (which your comp'r needs) get a mid range price 70-100$ for doing a few tapes, better quality = more $... cheapest way: play the tape into tv. then tape the tv screen with a digital camera (will have quality & sound, issues tho); then upload to comp'r via usb 2.0/firewire

Your dv camcorder desires a firewire connection (ieee 1394) with the intention to acquire video, your computing device likely did not comprise a firewire port, so that you've gotten to purchase one and deploy it, when you consider that maximum pcs (except probably sparkling) do not comprise a firewire port, your camcorder did not comprise a firewire wire so that you ought to purchase a wire too. Your camcorder did comprise a USB wire and that is used for downloading stills out of your camcorder.

you will need what is called a capture device which you put your video/audio out cords into and puts it into either a firewire or usb out and goes into your computer and captures it with its software,

For that you'll need a tv-tuner. Visit www.tigerdirect.com and look for it!
