its with the dirge of cerberus and the ps2 will play other games and the disk is like brand new

Are you positive it's a PS2 game? I'ts not a xBOX?Because i have noticed some stores especially in malls will re seal them,then put them back on the shelfs.

maybe you should check if the game is a genuine.
(it should have a shiny sticker on the back)
and depends what region it is. or does that only count for dvds
and ps2,s only play certain colour disks

if your ps2 makes a scraping sound while the disk tries to read it is the size of the hole in the center of the disc. some of the discs produced have a slightly bigger hole that causes the disc to slip when it is being read

The color on the bottom of disk, some PS2s only play certain colored disks (Blue, Clear, etc.). My PS2 did not play blue colored disks...

I would personally take it back and yell and scream until I got a new one and if it still won't play write sony and tell them maybe they'll give you a new ps2 ;-)!!!
