unfortunately it is about popularity mostly. if you look good on stage and you are appealing but you have the vocal ability of a doormouse then lots of people will still vote for you.
it is only much later in the competition when SOME finally realise that this is a singing competition. but by then, all the good ones would have gone out and you're left with the 'leftovers'. it is really depressing to have someone that is unworthy to get the title of s'pore idol and be s'pore's ambassador of music to the world.
a good example is mathilda who got voted out last week. in my opinion she is pure unadulterated talent all packed nicely in a 23 year old girl. she sings fantastic and she rocked the house with her latest performance of living on a prayer. and yet, she still got voted out and she amazingly lost to joakim gomez who wasnt even in the bottom few. joakim is only a pretty face with minimal talent and best but he still manages to garner most of the votes, keeping him safe from elimination. this itself proves that it is a popularity contest.
it is rather sad and it just goes to show that s'poreans are not mature enough to be able to participate in the voting process.

It is definitely a popularity competition, based on the countless times the cute but "cannot sing" idol wannabes managed to sail through week after week. I hope our American counterparts do not have access to the show....its so embarrassing, don't you agree? The good singers have been voted out one by one, so what that does that leave us? The eventual winner will be picked not because of his singing abillities but more so because of his popularity and looks. The stoned-deaf fans jolly well know who they want to be their Singapore idol, and the judges have no say whatsoever with their decision. How far can the "popular" so called singer go? Discovered talents go a long way, simply because they can sing!

As long as you made the competition to be judge by the ppl, its a popularity contest. Everyone is biased, like your family members and friends will surely be supporting you if you are in a competition, they wont be voting whom they think are better.
I always think that singing competition shldn't be judged by the ppl but by the professionals, its so unfair, all the gd singers are gone, and all the not so gd are still there. and do they think that if the lousy singer were made winner and cut an album, who would be buying it?
This SI competition has become more and more pointless.

Of course it popularity otherwise why would that 'performing monkey' still be doing in the top 6 ? I have since given up on the show and feel embarassed with the standard of our contestants when you compare with Malaysia not to mention Indonesian Idol.

I would never acknowlege the singapore idol singing competition.I could only acknowlege it as Singapore
AGE limited idol!!Look at all other countries of the competiton there was no age limited!Provided as long as you were a born Singaporean you were could participate THEN I would recognised this person as Singapore
Idol!Shall you want to be fair then break down to different age category.

for lots of this season, i assumed the educate became starting to be more beneficial of a acceptance contest, extraordinarily pondering the reality that Tim city stayed for thus long, even as more beneficial effectual singers were being despatched abode. yet because the educate ended up coming right down to 2 actual singer/songwriter/musicians, i imagine expertise ended up triumphing interior the top.

neither, it's a contest to see who has more money will win. If yourself or supporter doesn't have the money to vote for you, then u will lose. So the winner is the one who can contribute the most amount of money.
