My husband was adopted when he was 3. He was given the name of his mother and that was it. We cannot find her anywhere. He has searched for 5 years and couldnt find a trace of his mother. We know her name. All he knows is, at the time he was adopted out she was very sick. She could have died but I cannot find an Obituary on her. We do not have the money to pay for expensive searchs on web sites or case workers. Is there a free and accourate web site that could help us locate her? If not her address, aleast if shes alive? She lived in Kentuky, if that helps any. And he has her old address, which is just a parking lot now so he cant trace where she moved to (note:if shes alive, that is). Has anyone found something you needed to find a lost relative? Also, he has another brother hes never seen before or had contact to. Any opinions? or links?

Try Yahoo! People Search. You'll have to pay, like, $10 to get her address, but that's not much considering your husband will be finding his mother. Otherwise, I really don't know. I would search death records on the internet. My family and I did that once, and it was free. Good luck finding her.

I don't know of any websites or links available that would actually be of any help without going through a ton of redtape, but there are other ways to find her if you are wiling to put in the time and effort. First you can contact the city clerk's office in regards to her last known address and find out what happened to the house. They often keep documents like this and they contain the homeowner's personal information...maybe even a newer address. You could also look up old phone books and start calling everyone with that name in the area she lived and start asking questions, you may stumble upon a relative who will have some more information. I'd also try the hospital in her town, they keep records of death certificates and will release them to relatives just in case she has passed away. I know it's frustrating, but this is about the best I can do without advising you to pay some ridiculous fees for the same information. My cousin was adopted, he went through the same thing and that's how he did it. It did take him two years though...the paper trail was a nightmare and she did not want to be found.
