My mother was given a painting of The Blue Boy when she taught school in 1965. The teacher who gave it to her had it hanging in her classroom since around 1938-1940. It has a tag of sorts on the back from a Chicago gallery that burned during the Chicago fires and I can't remember the name of it. My mother has since passed and I was left the painting, but I don't have any ideas about the value. Any help would be appreciated.

Consider consulting ART CURATORS around the country. - Your mentioning the HISTORY of the piece will add VALUE to it!
I have heard of SOME ARTWORKS being auctioned from the span of the San Francisco Art Gallery that was originally bought from SPAIN that ended up back in Europe in the Netherlands Rijks Museum (which I have actually visited!)
Most such artworks travel more than their artists!
