i think a woman should see an ob/gyn either right when she starts having sex (or if she is planning on having sex any time soon) or as soon as she turns 18, whichever comes first. as soon as you start having sex, you definitely need to go to an ob/gyn to be periodically tested for STDs and cervical cancer.
i have always gone to a male ob/gyn. personally, i think that it is all professional, and that they have seen one so they have seen them all. maybe i feel this way because i am a nurse and i guess i think of it all as clinical rather than some sort of sexual thing. but even before i became a nurse my ob/gyns were male. i guess its more a question of what makes you comfortable - some women wont go to a male because they are uncomfortable or prudish...whatever. you can certainly try one and see how you feel. if you feel funny then try a woman next time and stick with it. but if you feel fine with it and you like his bedside manner, then stay with him. all male ob/gyns are required by law now to have a woman present in the room, such as another RN or medical assistant...that way the woman can 'supervise' and make sure nothing inappropriate is going on and can be a witness that nothing improper is happening. if you go to a male ob/gyn and there is not a woman in the room during your exam, ask for one - it is your right and it actually protects you just incase, and may make you feel more comfortable.

You go see a ob/gyn when you turn 18 and the first time you have sex. You can see a male or female. They both see everything. you just might be more comfortable with a female.

She should start seeing a gynocologist either when she starts becoming sexually active or starting at age 18.
I would never see a male gyno. It doesn't make sense for man to be my gyno because he doesn't have the parts--you know? It's like why would I listen to a man when he doesn't really know what is going on?

Probably now, is she is old enough for that issue to come why not go ahead and go. I've had women who are mean as hell and men how are sensitive and blah blah blah, so it just depends on how you feel.
I did stop seeing one doctor cause I wasn't comfortable with how big his hands were. Ape hands. Going where? NEXT!!! lol
