In many cases yes. The govt has embraced EEOC and Diversity and opened the path of becoming middle class and upper middle clas to many Americans of color. MLK benefitted not only black Americans but also Hispanics, Pacific Islanders, Asians etc.
Sad to say that a large percentage of African Americans have not taken advantage of this facility. Denigration of good black students by other black students has made it very difficult for many of them to reach full potential.
What amazes me is that many present day African American blame white people and government and conveniently ignore the fact that in the last 30 years Vietnamese, Korean, Indian immigrants have become upper middle class or multi millionaires in the same 'hostile' environment. So who is fooling whom? In that respect MLK's dream is unfulfilled.

I believe that his and many other peoples dream was acheived. I have read all the answers and agree with some. Of course it wasnt just his dream. He was well respected enough to allow his words, thoughts, and opinions be known. He was one of many that wanted the same dream. IHis dream was acheived. Ex... white and blacks in same school... blah blah.. you know the rest. Now a days... that is not the concern. That goal has been achieved. Now it is war on drugs, 9 trillion dollars in debt, same sex marriage, terrorists, and stupid stuff that should be resolved in proper manner but isnt. DRAMA, DRAMA.
People might not think that it was NOT acheived because there is still TALK of black people do this and that.. and white people do this and that and blah blah. But it is more or less how people interact with different people. Like I said... Drama!! It is hard for people to understand that it is not white and it is not black. It is US. We dont live in black and white photos no more... it is colored pics now. ha ha if you get that!!

No - we've just learned to be PC.
I think some of the important things - like laws protecting all people are in place and obvious discrimination is not tolerated. But, it's like in the movie Crash - people still stiffen up and walk faster around certain people. Where did profiling come from?

I'm sure I'm going to get a lot of flack for this one. But I think he is really overrated. It was not just his dream, but many other people. He's not the only one who fought for civil rights. People forget the struggles of all other Americans who fought for the same thing. I think "his dream" is worded wrong. Because it was not just his alone. But I still think we have a long way to go beforea achieving that dream.

i do no longer have self assurance so. nor do i have self assurance that it's going to ever be met.to be common his dream grow to be merely that. A dream. a dream that helped us flow in course of equality between each person inspite of the undeniable fact that it truly is an no longer a possibility objective. there'll be no time yet in our targets that each and each individual sees eachother as equals and treats eachother with respact and dignity in the way he envisioned. He did help to convey us a lot in course of that dream and he grow to be an rather good guy yet he might want to have also been a stupid guy to target to placed the no longer a possibility into action.

YES
I say yes because every since Martin stood up ,more and more people are taking a stand. The blacks and the whites are attending schools together and drinking out of the same water fountain. Heck.. I'm white and my fiance' is black couldn't pull that off in the old days without being ran out of town.

I think bits and pieces maybe. While I'd like to believe we live in world of equality for all races -- I don't think we're there yet. I think prejudice and racism still exist in both whites and blacks and a lot of "learned" behavior in both races that is slowly being overcome. (by "learned" -- things picked up in your home that grandparents or parents say or do ....)
I'd truly like us to be color blind for all races/nationalities/sex -- none of it should matter and I think we, as a country, have made leaps and bounds of progress, but there is still more to do on both sides of the equation.

Nope. As long as we have people who feel that they are superior to another group based on race, religion, sexual origin, or other minor factors, the dream is still just that.....a dream.
