I am either going to buy this years model or maybe a used 2003. How long do you think boxsters last, i.e., will they go to 150 or 200,000 miles (w/o a huge overhaul or being rebuilt or something)
?
Does anyone have a boxster this old & how's it doing?
are they generally pretty reliable?
thank you

Hi,
Porsche Boxsters are very reliable! As far as longevity, the Boxster engines are solid, high quality, high performance, and with proper maintenance like changing oil with new oil and filter every 3,000 miles it should last 200,000 miles plus. This is of course with normal every day driving, this will not include racing the car or driving it very hard. Always use the factory recommended Mobile One synthetic oil, and all the factory recommended maintenance intervals.

As a Porsche 1998 Boxster and a 1981 911 SC owner I can honestly tell you these cars will last you a long time with some TLC... Both of my Porsches are high mileage vehicles and they are running great without any problems!!

Good luck with your search!

Best regards,

Mike

Sure it'll last a long time if you take care of it. As for reliability, it will exhibit all the usual little electrical glitches of German cars, so be prepared for the occasional down time.

The most grevious fault of the Boxster is the top mechanism. Sooner or later something will jam or you will break the back window...you can count on it....hopefully not for a long time in your case.

All in all, fun car and shouldn't be a hassle if you take good care of it and do the periodic maintenance....and don't let MONKEYS work on it....someone who works on a Mercedes and has a German accent may know no more about Porsches than a Chevrolet mechanic. So always go to a knowledgable Porsche person. If you live in the San Francisco Bay area, e-mail me and I'll recommend some for you.

It will last at least 150k miles as long as you do ALL maintenance, and drive the car on a regular basis, if you plan on putting it into storage for a couple months at a time, you will end up with a lot of oil leaks and have to have the engines seals redone. Parts for porsches are expensive, labor is even more so, so plan on putting money into it even if it is new.The worst thing you can do is leave it sitting, if you buy it, drive it.

A well-cared-for Porsche will easily last 150-200,000 miles. I don't have one, but they have a repuation for being good cars.

as long as you take of a car's maintenance it will last you 250k trough 300k more if you really want to keep upgrading. all depend's on how good of an owner you become.
