odor is in random areas, I do have a cat and dog, but this doesnt smell like that. Septic maybe? No smokers in house. The smell is strong, and not a good sweet like a flower or candy. for all of you healthcare workers out there....it smells like ketoacidosis breath:(

Check the Garbage disposal. If it is put slices of oranges or lemons down the garbage disposal. Could also be the carpet or something maybe crawl under your house! I know it is a terrible thought but my neighbors cat crawl under her house and died and it was such a odor and she had to hire someone to take the cat out from under her crawl space in her home.

Carpet maybe? My carpet seems to smell like you describe when its been warm outside, and the house has been closed up.
I have found that if I vacuum very thouroughly, not quickly, but slowly and thoroughly, the smell goes away for quite a while.
Of course, I'm only guessing in your case, but this is what I have found.

How old/new is your house? Sometimes spirits have their own smells. We once had a smell of roses ouside our hallway and in our bedroom...was weird because we didn't have roses in the house or even in the garden.

Check under your house for a dead animal or worse a body could be buried under there.
