I have a smaller RAM, so for some extra space I want to stop the process of 'ymsgr.tray.exe' seen in the task manager processes of my XP pro. Is it possible to stop this process, when I am not using yahoo messenger. And when I want to use messenger how do I activate. Thanks.

start / run / msconfig / OK

Go to the startup tab.
Enjoy and customize your startup options from there.

If you want to start it again, just open yahoo again from your start menu.

(It is safe to kill the ymsgrtray.exe process from windows task manager without any harm)

You can also set up messenger so it doesn't load to the tray on boot:

log into Yahoo Messenger
Click on the menu item "Messenger"
Click "Preferences"
Click "General"
uncheck "Automatically start Yahoo! Messenger"
click OK

This will prevent Messenger from loading on startup, so the process will not load. Place a shortcut on your desktop, and drag a copy to your quick launch if you want.

Not that I know of. You can click end process but you would have to reboot or log off and back on XP to restart messenger.

either delete program or go to your control panel>Performance and Maintainance>Administrative Tools>Services
scroll down and right click the service and select properties and change the settings to manual or disable, this is how i set many memory hogging programs (especially windows defender etc) to run only when i want them too!~
