Yup. And they acted as a fifth column throughout the Cold War. So why is it still around?
I suppose it's just a 'coincidence' that they oppose Christianity and Christians at every opportunity. What happened to MY 1st Amendment right to free exercise of religion, ie, Ecclesiasticus 30? That chapter is in direct conflict with WIC 300, yet guess which one wins out? And the ACLU won't TOUCH it. Why? We're only Christians, WE don't count!

The mission and EVERY SINGLE CASE taken by the ACLU is to protect individual rights from the rich and the powerful. That powerful enemy of our rights is usually government, but not always. You may have a personal belief that the government is also trying to inflict on somebody, and thus see the ACLU's opposition as being anti-American. But they are really just against the victim being oppressed by government action.

For example, lots of people claim the ACLU is anti-Christian because they oppose prayer at public school events. But they only oppose that because the school is part of the government, and an officially-sanctioned prayer inflicts some religious beliefs on other victims.

They also fought and won a case in which a high school student's personal statement in the yearbook crediting her faith in Jesus for her brilliant academic performance was censored out by the school administration. Since this was a forum of student opinion that included statements from every student, with no official endorsement of any viewpoint, it was a matter of freedom of speech.

Of course they defend a lot of unpopular people: People with popular positions generally don't need defending! So the next time you take offense at an ACLU action, think about how you will feel when you have an unpopular position, and they come to help you defend your rights.

Yes, but did you also know that socialist was on the rise then? There was even a socialist party back then. Socialism was brought about by the wages that people were working back then. Back then corporations were unrestrained by the government and monopolies were everywhere. this means that businesses could pay employees whatever they wanted and charge whatever they wanted for their products and services. No competition to bring prices down.

The idea of socialism became very popular, especially since many people were just not making by on the low wages. At least with democratic socialism they could have a chance to distribute the wealth in much they same way that the government does today. I don’t know how you associated them with sabotage, though, but my best guess is the 1917 espionage act, which was a grave strike against the freedom of speech

In in fact had nothing to do with espionage, it was about speaking out against the government. It was very wide in who it could punish, and chose mostly to oppress minority newspapers that spoke out against the government’s policies. But it was also prosecutable if anyone spoke out against government officials or encouraged people to avoid enlistment.

The punishment for speaking out was harsh - 20 years in jail and/or 10,000$ fine.

Honestly, not many Americans know what socialism is, besides that it is bad..

In our current economic system, we use a lot of socialism to help pay for programs such as WIC, welfare, some federal grants, and more. A large issue is socialized healthcare, which would take health insurance out of the hands of businesses and into the hands of the government. Giving us affordable or possibly free healthcare, much like many nations such as Japan and European countries.

You ever heard of a loaded question?

Obviously the ACLU don't think they're anti-American. If you think they are, you can certainly argue that point - but a loaded question isn't a question at all, it's a statement. Why do people insist on doing that on here? What do you gain from it? Surely the whole point is to engage in debate and learn, maybe even change your mind.

I think you wrong on this ACLU thing Check their mission Statement and their case record.

If it wasn't for the ACLU people would be chipping away at the constitution. Believe it or not some residents of America think they are above the law. Others think they can circumvent 230 years of law.

Go big Red Go

Do you know why you are so stupid and why your existence is a danger to the rest of the freedom loving people? Civil liberties are the cornerstone of America and the ACLU defends that. People like you who dislike civil liberties can leave and move to Iran or North Korea.

That's utter crap. The ACLU was formed to make sure that nobody endeavored to sabatoge the Bill of Rights.

The question isn't why do I support the Bill of Rights - the question is, why do you NOT?

The ACLU cares only for criminals and cares nothing about the innocent.

Look at their support for NAMBLA. Barbarians!
