That sounds Italian to me, I'm having a hard time figuring out if that's a guy name or a girl name, if I had to guess I would say girl. I have a sister in law from Italy her name is Manuella, there's a tip for names.

Marcelinna sounds Italian if she looks italian, Marcellina can sound many things such as Mexican, Puerto Rican, Spanish, Filipino, even American. It depends on who hears it. Does it matter? Americans name their kids Russian names and people don't really care as long as it's not tongue twisting... Rumpelstiltskin! ( I couldnt even type it without making errors along the way!)

Hi..here is some information about that name...

MARCELINA
Gender: Feminine

Usage: Polish

Polish feminine form of Marcellinus (see MARCELLIN).

MARCELLIN
Gender: Masculine

Usage: French

From the Roman family name Marcellinus, which was derived from MARCELLUS. Saint Marcellinus was a pope of the early 4th century who was supposedly martyred under the Roman emperor Diocletian.

Hopefully I can help you, happy choosing and take care....

Marcellina is a beautiful and exotic name...and you can't help but think of Italy when you hear that name.

That name makes me think of family traditions...and of a little dark-haired girl with big brown eyes making her First Holy Communion in a white dress with white gloves, and a lacey veil. The same little girl... several years later with delicate porcelain features, now moving into young womanhood and wearing a soft floral dress as she stands in front of the Bishop and makes her Confirmation.

This same young woman on her wedding day...wearing a flowing white wedding dress with garlands of flowers in her hair, as she takes her vows and her parents, and grandparents and her family look on proudly.

Several years later....as she becomes a mother and blesses her first daughter the same beautiful name.

Many Blessings To You & Your Daughter
& Your Granddaughter~*

Marcellina sounds latin to me. I think that it is a pretty name, but the baby would be called Marcie or Lina. I like it, but there are more Italian names like Chiara (key-ar-ah), Sophia, and Isabella.

sounds very Italian to me
I used to work with a woman named Marcella, she was called "marc" for short. If your friend is adamant about not shortening this beautiful name, she should not be afraid to gently correct anyone who tries to either on purpose or inadvertently.
It sounds very gentle and lyrical to me.
