Universal health care comes at the price of quality service. If you go to a Canadian hospital, this loss of service is noticeable in that the doctors will not be able to see you in timely matter. Despite the lack of service, the hospital expense does not magically disappear, the tax payers fit the bill.
One should first observe an example of a system that they champion, if one exists, before they promote it.

What you call a "leftist" in the US is a conservative in most of the world. But being a Yank, you are proud of your ignorance.
Canada spends half the dollars the US does on a per capita basis and medical coverage is universal, 100%. Only mouth breathers can't figure out why people want that.
Incidentally, Mr. Mouth Breather, Massachusetts Dumbocrats and Repubicunts together created a universal medicare plan that is feasible. Did you not bother to read the newspapers, or can't you read?

Addtional to "wiegraff13":
You have obviously never been to Canada and seen a hospital or the medicare system. You are willingly repeating a lie that is easily proven false.

Then don't try because God knows NOBODY knows what makes the Conservatives tick. Planning on jumping the queue are you when you get sick so you don't have to associate with the riffraff of regular canadians?
You do know that Tommy Douglas, Saskatchewan Premier, leader of the CCF which morphed into the New Democratic Party brought universal health care to Canada right? Otherwise we'd be in the same mess the US is in with HMOs etc.
Between Ralph Klein, Mike Harris and Ernie Eaves, they almost killed our universal health care, which is the envy of most of the world that thinks.

Usually the left is naive and are very suggestible to propaganda. This is why much of what they hear negative about America, they believe as fact. You can have their doctor and a nurse tell them the truth but if they hear a smooth journalist say otherwise they will believe them first.
I have a friend that sells cars and he tells me that he one of the first thing he does is ask them something about what Bush recently did. If they are negative about Bush he agrees and knows that he can make more profit on the car. He says, “That’s when I know I can pour it on.”
He actually isn’t too dishonest as he doesn’t really care who the president is just that he hits target.
He thinks that I’m nuts for caring about politics so much.

Wow it is amazing that someone with the brain capacity of a fruit fly could even theorize beyond masterbating in the shower.
Go back to watching the Power Puff Girls and don't hurt yourself trying to understand grown up things.

I've never actually heard anyone fawning over Canada's health care system. but I suppose what is attractive about it is that it provides health care for all.
At my employer, here in the U.S. I pay $420 per month for health care for my family of four - and that's just what I contribute. The company pays another $700 per month or so. Additionally, if you count co-pays and deductibles my family probably spends another $100 out of pocket - and we're all healthy.
So that means it's costing about $14K per year in medical expenses for a healthy family of four.
That's entirely outside the reach of someone who loses their job, full-time students, etc. Additionally a large percent of personal bankrupcies involve medical bills in the tens of thousands of dollars. Get in a car accident and you might wind up owning $50K. Get a disease - bankrupcy is around the corner.
Obviously there's no free lunch, per se. But we tend to be a nation of compassionate people and it is a noble ideal to wish for all of our citizens to be able to afford vacinations, well care, and emergency care.

Why would you not wish for a great health system for your fellow citizens who cannot pay for heart surgeries and kidney transplants? Or do you think your tax money his more important than ensuring that no one dies because he cannot afford to pay for his health care?
Is USA as a country a family or not? Would you want your child or spouse to die because they cant afford their own medical bills?

whats bad with universal free healthcare. who wouldnt want free healthcare? you obviously havent lived a day of life have you? the millions of americans who cant afford healthcare, this is like a dream come true for them. we have sick-care in america, not healthcare. nothing to prevent disease, just treating it, with a costly bill. instead of having our taxdollars support a useless war half-way across the earth, why not use it to make america better
btw, europe has this too.
