I thought on Yahoo when you reported spam, that they blocked that particular email address, but I'm getting a lot of repeats.

Once your email address is on a spammers list it is almost impossible to get off. Right now, your e-mail address (along with millions of others) is on a CD being sold from the back rooms of software shops from Bangladesh to Botswanna and from Norway to the Netherlands.

However there are several things that you can do to prevent even more spam.

1. Start by removing your e-mail address from your Yahoo profile,if it is on it. The spam-industry has programs that are continusously crawling the web looking for the "@" symbol which is a sure sign the the word before it and the domain name after it is an e-mail address!

2. Use a longer address. The spam industry uses programs that try sending e-mail to all known domain names. Example: a program might start trying to send out e-mails to everyone starting with aaaaa@INVALID.com and continue down to zzzzz@INVALID.com. Using a longer e-mail address will make this harder to do.

3. Never click the "Unsubscribe Link" in any e-mail. This will only confirm to the spammers that your e-mail address is indeed real and that you are reading their garbage. In fact, do not even open any e-mail from anybody you don't know or trust. Many spams are not only annoying but contain viruses of other malware. Just delete 'em without opening 'em!.
You can however click that "Unsubscribe Me" button from businesses that are well known and that you trust. Walmart... yes. Someone selling Viagra...no.

4. Open up a second e-mail account. Whenever, a website requires you to register using your e mail address, use this secondary address. There are many unscrupulous websites that will sell you address to others or bombard you with spam themselves.

5. Download a free copy of SiteAdvisor. SiteAdvisor will alert you when you search (Google, Yahoo, MSN, search only) of websites that are known to send out spam. This can help you avoid registering with any sites that are known to spam people.

Treat your e-mail address just like you would your telephone number or home address....only give it out to those that you absolutely trust!

you're getting lots or repeats cuz they're not originating from the same e-amil address, instead, whats happening is, someone sent you and email once, with a picture, any atachment, or sometimes blank. And as soon as you open it, even if you didnt open the pic, or click the link or w/e, they'd know that theres a person thats using the email, meaning the email is active...Which on the other hand means that they can send you spam hoping that you would click on one.
That why you should never Post your email online(ex..Forums, Registrations, Freenewsletter...etv..)its all not good...
My advice, Create a new Yahoo, hotmail, Gmail (i sent you an invite if you want), and dont worry about the current email, cuz i think its gona be a real pain in the A** if you dont want to be spammed anymore...
Good luck,
hope a helped a little

there is only one way to prevent spam in the first place.
dun give your personal email address to your friends.
this might sound ridiculous, but this is how spam works.
whenever your friends send u those funny email, it is usually forwarded 100 times with all those long list of others receipient's email address.
these list gets circulated, including yours, and end up in wrong hand, u know who, it is the spammers.
clicking those "Unsubcribe" link, is a trap designed to tell the original spammers to continue sending u more spam, cos by doing that, your email address is further verified and confirmed to be reachable.

Did you try to subscribe to a " work from home " company, like Panda research?
I did, and the next morning I had a TON of emails. As far as I know, the only thing you can do is click on the email, and then click on "unsubsuscribe". But even then, it can take up to 10 days for them to stop. I'm still in the process of that myself. It was a scam, you were to take a survey, and get paid for it. Instead, before you could get paid a lousy $5.00 for participating, you had to purchase something first.

in other words you cannot block spam, you can only reroute it. I use my MSN/Outlook blocking feature. I go to the spam folder, select all, and block all. Alas, no spam. I get almost 200 spam hits a day in my yahoo account. I am constantly emptying the folder. Why can't I just block the addresses that this crap is coming from.

At the end of some spams, there is a place to unsubscribe. I was getting tons of spam too, even though I didn't subscribe to anything.

I have the same problem. I just delete them. Click on the "Check All" box down on the bottom, and then click delete, and you don't have to check all of those emails. I don't know how to change my email address.

On your yahoo mail page you will see "options" to the far right of the screen, click on that then, spam protection, then automatically delete mail upon receipt. This will automatically delete the bulk mail from your mail box.

they do, unless your blocked sender list is full, you might want to empty it and start over, most of the older ones won't be around anymore, and don't give out your email address so easily
