How do I stop my mouse pointer from opening highlighted files that I haven't clicked on yet?

That didn't work, there are no settings to change mouse in windows xp.

You need to change the mouse settings.

Start>Control Panel>Hardware profiles>mouse settings

Once you're in there, change the option from single click to double click to open folders and files.

That should stop the problem. I hope this is understandable.
