Some non-hillbilly?
Does that mean all conservatives are racist, beer guzzling, uncultured, slobs?
Because I think I'm pretty conservative, and I do not like George Bush. Or beer guzzling. Or racism.

A liberal is one who embraces and encourages change more than a concervative, simply put. I hope that helps.

Not at all, the beer guzzling good old boys didn't vote much until the Bush managers hit on using anti-abortion, anti-gay, pro --evangelical pentecostal and born against to get them to the polls. Even at that he had to steal the election. Even if they don't go to church, their mamas do, or listen to Jerry Falwell faithfully. Jerry tells them how to vote and by damn you're motivated to do it this time! Ain't no man gonna marry up with another man!

The conservatives I use to know were a bit more buttoned up, blue collar fairly educated and a bit more uptight than my more liberal acquaintances: I don't hate them, my grandparents were super conservative. I just don't agree with anyone who is in favor of our Government's actons these last 4 years.

Liberalism is an ideology, philosophical view, and political tradition which holds that liberty is the primary political value.[1] Liberalism has its roots in the Western Enlightenment, but the term now encompasses a diversity of political thought.

Broadly speaking, contemporary liberalism emphasizes individual rights. It seeks a society characterized by freedom of thought for individuals, limitations on power, especially of government and religion, the rule of law, free public education, the free exchange of ideas, a market economy that supports relatively free private enterprise, and a transparent system of government in which the rights of all citizens are protected. [2] In modern society, liberals favor a liberal democracy with open and fair elections, where all citizens have equal rights by law and an equal opportunity to succeed.

A liberal is someone who has an ideology usually aligned with the Democratic party. I don't know where you get all that crap on conservatives. Recently a Democrat lost her race because she rashly accused an officer of stopping her because she was black and a woman. Then she had two men following her that made plenty of anti-Semitic comments.

By the way you talk and make rash comments without backing, I'd say you're liberal.

Get your facts checked out and don't stereotype.

See John Skerry? He is the opposite of liberal.
Don't believe him, I'm as liberal as they get & I'm not against
guns or freedom.
I am against eminent domain. I mean, damn, how much
more stuff do these big businesses need?!

As for Raylene, at least she acknowledges professors &
scientists are liberal, as so are many in health care.
I'm not uneducated, I'm a nurse & some of the remarks
to your question make me wonder what has happened
to our country.

I also have some very nice conservative friends, like you.

Any reasonable, intelligent person, will acknowledge that they agree with some of both party's platforms....in my opinion...all statistical "populations" follow a bell curve...with a "lunatic fringe" on both edges, and a majority in the middle....there are radicals in both parties....fringe......I believe the majority of Americans want the same thing, and no single individual outside yourself, agrees with all issues....it comes down to where the majority of what you agree with lies.....I know many liberals who are very fiscally conservative....party lines are almost irrelevant anymore, except for ignorant morons who shouldn't be allowed to vote anyway.......for either side.......

Most racists and bigots are liberals now... take a look at the attacks on Israel, Condoleezza Rice and any minority on the White House staff.

Liberals are usually on the lower social economic level and are not as well educated. Only professors and scientist are the exception to the income/education.

Liberals are usually Democrats.

To be a true liberal and or Democrat you must believe in twelve basic ideas. First...A mother has the right to murder her baby ..... second, people can not take care of themselves, everyone needs the federal goverment to care for them...... Third, no one can be trusted to own a gun, we should all rely on the government to protect our homes, property and well being....... Fourth, minorities are not able to cope in todays world unless they are given special exceptions, treatment and opportunities which are legislated by the government..... fifth, american business and entreprenuers are the worlds largest source of evil...... sixth, the US military is a waste of money, we should just be nice to everyone and hope they don't decide to see our pacifism as weakness and kill us. ..... seventh, don't bother to protect our borders or enforce immigration policies we need to provide everyone in the world a free pass..... eighth, to be a true liberal you must look down on everyone else, only liberals are well educated and enlightened.... everyone else is a redneck.... ninth, the world would be better off without the US spreading their freedom and Democracy... Ideas like that can never work... people can not survive on their own in a free world ...they need the safety and control of an imposing Governement to care for them .... tenth, religion is wrong .. no one should be able to practice religion of any type (except perhaps new age hippie-ism or witchcraft) in a place where someone may see them..... and twelfth, All money belongs to the government to do with as they see fit...if you earn money they should be able to take as much of it as they see fit.... they'll let you keep just enough to get by... anyone who earns a lot of money is evil and needs to give it to the government (this rule does not apply to Hollywood folks or Politicians because they are smarter than other rich people) So basically to be a liberal you must hate Freedom, loath democracy, fear liberty, despise capitolism, have a total disregaurd for human life and Looooove bueracracy and big government. You must choose to believe the government has all the answers and rugged individualism is a backwoods redneck idea.

Each of the major political parties focuses on different aspects of the Constitution as most important. In the Preamble to the Constitution, there are five goals (values) of the US government: "establish Justice, to ensure domestic Tranquility, to provide for the common Defense, to promote the general Welfare, and secure the blessings of Liberty"

Conservatives think the most important are "to ensure domestic Tranquility" (meaning to promote conformity with 'traditional' ways) and to "provide for the Common Defense". Most conservatives are Republicans, who (nowadays) want group rights (conformity with 'traditional' values) and a large government to ensure domestic tranquility (by enforcing those conservative majority beliefs). Moderate republicans (originally called fiscal conservatives) want a small government, just large enough to provide for the common Defense.

Liberals think it's more important to "promote the general Welfare, and ensure the blessings of Liberty". Most liberals are Democrats, who want individual rights and a large government to promote the general welfare. Moderate democrats don't want a lot of wasteful spending, and want to achieve their goals without causing too many problems. Democrats do have a Conservative wing, which focuses on better ethical leadership and greater protection for both groups and individuals. The main difference is that conservative democrats still don't believe in enforcing their views on the minority, even if their own personal choices would be the same as what conservative republicans would make.

The concept of promoting Justice is important to both camps, but their idea of justice differs. Most camps of the liberal parties believe ensuring Justice requires favoring defendants, preferring the guilty to go free rather than sending the innocent to prison. Republicans and conservatives believe the promoting Justice requires being harsh to those accused, even if that occasionally inflicts sentences on the innocent.

Interestingly, the spectrum is not linear, and has more than one dimension. There are other political parties who focus on different combinations of those values. For example, Libertarians want a small government (no wasteful spending) and very little Welfare (few if any entitlements), but strong on Defense. Libertarians also want lots of protection for individual civil rights, to secure the blessings of Liberty. They feel that Tranquility will take care of itself, and doesn’t need government enforcement of morality. As such, they are moderate about most issues, except for being adamant that the majority should not impose its beliefs on the minority, as part of their way to promote Justice.

So, it basically comes down to which sets of Constitutional values each group thinks are most important.

See the definition of a degenerate:

A depraved, corrupt, or vicious person.
A person lacking or having progressively lost normative biological or psychological characteristics.

They hate guns, free speech of anyone that disagrees with them, and they believe that the gov't should be totalitarian. Heck, they think the gov't should take over any property at will. (Look at the NorthEast)
