It all depends on the type of company. Because hiring human beings is an expensive proposition, a lot of places like to do their hiring at the beginning of the year and hope to have enough people still on the payroll by the end of the year. Unless it's strictly seasonal work, few companies like to hire at the end of the tax year. They are taxed according to the number of employees on their payrolls, so it's better to hold off on hiring new people until at least January of the next year.

You also have to consider the rate of employee turnover. Every time a new hire quits, someone else has to take over his or her duties. This could mean pulling an experienced (and higher paid) employee off a line or trusting another inexperienced newbie to do the job. It makes sense to wait until all the workers who plan on quitting have left before hiring new people to replace them.

It just depends on how well the company is doing. Where I work, if it's a good month they might hire, but if it's down you can forget about it until things change again. Usually around Christmas there is Temp Holiday hiring which may turn into something more after the holidays if things work out.

yes, they do hire at certain times of the year. Usually between Jan 1 and Dec 31 of the same year. Did you help him with the application? If so, it is filed in the circular file.
