I have never met Pat Califia. It is safe to say, no doubt, that he has a very active fantasy life, having read a myriad of his stories. One may also presume that he has had a sparklingly interesting sex life as well.
What do I think of his writing?
As far as erotica goes, some of it's pretty good. There's a lot of awful erotica out there, and it's hard to write a porn story where there is an actual "story" as well as enough satisfaction for readers who want to "get down to business."
Women tend to read erotica more than look at it, habitually, we aren't as visually oriented as men (most of us, not all of us!). We like stories, with costumes and drama, suspense and props, fantasy is a very big turn on, so I think Califia provides this nicely.
True, he's into S & M, so a person who doesn't like to read about such things isn't going to be into it, but a person can read about it, and never do it, and still think it's hot. Erotica's function is to act as a springboard for better and hotter things... to each their own.
So basically?
Hooray for Pat!
Go go Califia! Rock on with your bad self!

Pretty weird. Too much adventure for one lifetime. I mean, being bi AND transsexual is bad enough, but that leather and other stuff... Look, I met a guy at a party once in college, he invited me back to his place and asked me to beat him (no doubt thinking I'd be good at it, being over 6 feet tall). No, I did NOT do it. 'Nuff said.
