When we talk about a plasma in physics we are usually talking about the forth state of matter. A text book definition of a plasma is "a quasi-neutral gas of charged and neutral particles which exhibits collective behavior." In laymen terms a plasma is superheated gas where some or all of the particles are ionized. The ionization causes plasmas to behave differently under electromagnetic fields then gas.

or it can be the stuff in your blood that carries all the goodies you need to stay alive. Pick one.
But hurry !
I hear them evil Republicans are planning to take away your right to choose.

Plasma is a state of matter created when the electrons are stripped away from the nuclues. This happens in very (very, very) high temperatures like inside stars. It is the most common state of matter in the universe.

PLASMA IS THE 4TH STATE OF MATTER... IT MUST BE CONTAINED BY ELECTROMAGNETIC FORCE IN A COMPUTERIZE ED JAR...IT IS THOUGHT TO BE THE FUTURE METHOD OF PROPELLING SPACE VEHICLES..I HAD THE GOOD FORTUNE OF VISITING MIT IN BOSTON AND GIVEN A VIEWING THE WHOLE PROCESS. THEY HAVE ONE WHOLE ROOM JUST TO BUILD THE AMOUNT OF ELEC. TO RUN THE ELECTROMAGNETS PROBABLY COULD HAVE POWERED MUCH OF BOSTON.. ALSO IF THE PLASMA COULD HAVE TOUCHED THE SIDE OF THE VESSEL IT WOULD DESTROY IT. ALSO WAS SHOWN THE SCIENTIST'S LAB. IT LOOKED WORSE THEN MY ROOM AS A CHILD.
