I currently have a 2005 pontiac G6 which is a pretty nice car but the payments are a little high. I was looking into getting a Scion TC but it would only save me a little over $100 per month and I would be paying on it for two more years. I really wanted to get the TC a couple of years ago but they were so hard to find. The TC does get better gas mileage and is a little cheaper but then I would pay for two more years. What would you do??????????

Not enough better gas mileage to change to a smaller engine car. Pay off the Pontiac keep good credit and things in your life will change in the next two years. At that time car title in your hand and a better bargaining position. Negative equity in a car will not go away when buying a new one it will haunt you. Roll over what you owe into a new car loan just to change cars. If you total the new car it will be paid off but not the extra amount refinanced rolled into the loan. GAP coverage for the difference costs extra too. The new financing scam!

Can you get the monthly payment for the Tc increased for shorter term financing?? I assume you're looking at a 60-month payment. If you change it to a 48-month payment plan, you'd pay about the same (I assume) as you pay for the Pontiac now per month, but only owe for 1 extra year instead of two.

You'd still save money on gas, and since it would be a new Tc, service costs should be zero since its under warranty. Scion also has a thing where you get 3 free oil changes as lon as its within your 3yr/36,000 warranty. So that helps with some $$$ too.

Also (I know I'll catch some flak for this), a Scion is a Toyota - one of the most dependable cars out there. Its FAR less likely to break down or need major repairs / replacements made than a Pontiac. Parts and labor are usually cheaper than a Pontiac too.

The Scion Tc is a good car with good mileage and a parent company with an outstanding service and safety record. In the long term, Scion will outlast a Pontiac and has better gas mileage and service costs too. If it was me, I'd bite the bullet and go for the Tc.

Hope that my 2c helps! Best wishes to you!

I bought 1 a year ao and love it. It gets great gas mileage and is a great car to drive. The scion people are noce, but when you goto buy, make sure you speak with a sales person that understands new technology, because the one I got kept telling me that an ipod adapter was not an option even though it was standard
