Wireless modem? Do you mean wireless router?

You very likely will need to contact your ISP to have them reset the DSL modem and walk your through the setup process.

It sounds like you have a D-Link, even tho you don't mention the brand. If you do carry it back to where you bought it and get your money back and then go get you a Belkin at Wal-mart. They are very simple to install and you won't have the problems you have. I had a D-Link on our system that was installed by my daughters ex-boyfriend and it started acting up. When I started troubleshooting the peoblem the same thing kept happening with me.Also with this brand you have to install Network Magic to set up your home network. Not true with the Belkin. You can use the home network setup you should have already in your computer and the Belkin will recognize your ISP address that allready exist with your internet service. I was on and off the phone with Belkin customer service trying to troubleshoot my problem for 3 or 4 days. In the end they finally determined that it was the unit that was defective. I got so mad I threw the thing away. One other problem I was having was it was causeing my computer to freeze up and crash constantley. Save yourself the headache and hassle and get a Belkin.
