Here's another warning regarding SODA IN CANS! We certainly live in a dangerous world. This incident happened recently in North Texas.A woman went boating one Sunday taking with her some cans of coke which she put into the refrigerator of the boat. On Monday she was taken to the hospital and placed in the Intensive care Unit. She died on Wednesday. The autopsy concluded she died of Leptospirosis. This was traced to the can of coke she drank from, not using a glass. Tests showed that the can was infected by dried rat urine and hence the disease leptospirosis.Rat urine contains toxic and deathly substances. It is highly recommended to thoroughly wash the upper part of soda cans before drinking out of them. The cans are typically stocked in warehouses and transported straight to the shops without being cleaned. A study at NYCU showed that the tops of soda cans are more contaminated than public toilets (i.e).. full of germs and bacteria. So wash them with water to aviod getting sick.

I agree! That is such a freaky incident. I've received an email once about the soda can tops and how they contain dried rat urine and other deadly substances from being stored in warehouses. Like I always tell my kids...when buying soda cans, wash and wipe the tops. If there's no water available, use a straw. Best bet, buy bottled soda and a straw.

How do we know that lady didn't get sick form the water,? about 80% of our water is polluted, especially Lake Pochatican in LA after the cane hit. Lake St Clair is polluted by waste water, that is something esle to think about, It is a great idea to wash all can goods off before use.

if that story is a hoax or not doesnt matter....it really could happen....the FDA allow a curtain amount of rat droppings in all are food.....in every food out there, there is a chance it has atleast a small amount of rat waste in it....it is because it is almost impossible to stop rats and mice from getting to the food we eat....at some point during the food being stored there is a chance a rat or mice could have been on it or in it....

I drink from soda cans alot and now it scares me enough that I will never do it again. It should be mandatory that they be cleaned somehow before leaving the warehouse. Also the ware houses should be inspected by the state. When we buy products we never expect that it could kill us.
