I have a preteen son and he has friends over quite a bit which I don't mind. I want him to feel comfortable having his buddies over. But some of these kids I don't know how they are still alive!! They are spoiled, smart mouthed and just plain disrespectful! I let these kids know from the start that I won't tolerate this kind of behavior in my house but I'm astonished that they get away with this kind of stuff at home! My son is always telling me how bad they are at school and around their own parents when he spends time with them at their houses. I never would have behaved this way when I was growing up--I would have had my teeth smacked down my throat! And my mother wasn't one to spank, but you knew when she meant serious business....but every now and again you got your a** tore up because you thought you were bigger than mom. What the hell is going on with the way people discipline their children???

Because to many parents now are more focused on their careers or they both have to work and the kids often get left to raise themselves and are then compensated for the lack of time and attention from their parents with material possesions. Add that to the new thing that it is wrong to spank a child and all the alternate forms of discipline and you end up with spoiled bratty kids. When we were in school you acted up you got your butt busted at school then again when you got home, you smarted off to your parents you better hope you were out of reach, we worked for what we got and learned respect from an early age and the majority of the kids today aren't being brought up that way. My kids know if they deserve it they are going to get a spanking and they have been smacked for mouthing off but they are all three decent, responsible, respectful kids so it must not be hurting them.

well kids today are protected by all of the people who seem to think only about the bad side of hitting a child. the people who decided that a child couldn't be hit for being a smart@ss, or saying things to their parents that would be way out of line. No they had to sya that beating a child is wrong, i'm not saying that i beat the **** out of my kids , I'm just saying that if a kid is way the fuke out of line , I'll knock them so hard they will thinktwice, while i use a certain tone of voice, so my kid knows he just crossed the line.
