My country of Origin is America but I am Greek Irish. I was born and raised in Florida. I am now living in Canada so I am a immigrant of Canada and I am still Greek Irish if anyone asks me. I will never say I am American-Canadian so why when people move to the US do they say they are African-American, Mexican-American, Asian-American, Whatever country you are from American... I just dont get it...
Not to offend anyone from my country of Origin.. I am very happy living in Canada and I would rather live there than the US especially now that Bush is in office I think the US is becoming more and more unstable...

My family came to the United States many generations ago and after reading the book the European Dream I am thinking about going back. The EU is ascending in quality of life and the US is descending except for a few very wealthy families.
It is likely that the same inequitable distribution of wealth will exist in the US as it does in Mexico in the next 20 years but right now my rights to be free from religion are being trampled in the US; elections are bought by the oligarchy that owns the media; politicians lie, cheat, steal with impunity and with the support of evangelical churches. I could go on and on with personal concerns but the book on the EU cited above gives a clear picture of good reasons to consider immigrating home.

The word Immigrate means to move permanently!
I was born in India... I came to the US when I was 3... but went back for a few years (10 years there) for schooling. Heck, I know more about India than ppl who have lived there all their lives.
You couldn't pay me enough to move back... why? Because the US is my new homeland. I have "IMMIGRATED" to the US, not be a temp guest or fair-weather immigrant. The Pilgrims, Quakers, etc. who moved here, came here for good... not sailing back and forth when a war came about or the King/Queen in England died!
My kids don't even speak any Indian languages... why should they? They live in the US and aren't going back. If they learn a new language, it will be something like Spanish or something that will help their life in the US.
Once you grow roots somewhere or transplant yourself, you stay put! If not for your sake, then for your kids' sake... there is no reason to put them thru the hardships of moving between countries that you had to endure.
BTW, everything is not money...it is freedom! As the Declaration of Independence says: Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
I have traveled more (I am 38 yrs old) than most will in a lifetime.. I have been to over 54 countries. USA is the best country in the world! I am not biased... I am basing this on my observations. Yes, the US may not be the best in everything... but once you average everything out... this is the greatest country in the world!

i myself am not an immigrant, but i know many people who are from mexico and wish they could survive there. the economy in mexico is so bad, if only it were better i think most people would want to stay there. they need to more evenly distribute their wealth, but i see that with the latest political dispute about the presidential election that it isn't likely to happen. the protesters who are trying to change the way the country is run are being called traitors....and americans say mexicans never try to change their own country, they just come here. well they are trying to change things....i hope it works. then you could live where you want :)

I currently stay in New Zealand. But my home country is Namibia. It is a beautiful country with a lot of very nice people. It is in Africa (Angelina Jolie recently had her baby there) I was born in Keetmanshoop. I would love to stay there if the economy was better and the government was not corrupt. I can definitely understand your dream... Nice question for a change.

Immigrants ought to continually help their motherland. If an Indian/Pakistani is residing as an immigrant in Australia, then he's not an Australian because he has to pay funds for his stay interior the country. Its like someone staying in a inn. yet when an Indian/Pakistani has earned citizenship of that united states, then he ought to continually help that united states. for instance Monty Panesar ought to continually help England and his loyalty ought to continually be with England.

Good for you, tell it like it is, and while you are at it, why don't you talk about the pollution the Large American Corporations are sprading throughout other countries in the name of progerss while they pay the workers only about 1/10th of the wage they pay American workers to do the same job?
