you did the right thing to begin with- I don't know what you're worried about. The laptop will just update for a few minutes and then automatically shut itself off after that. From now on, it's a good idea to update your computer before it shuts down because those updates will improve the performance of your computer.

I'd suggest that you'd leave the computer so that it can finish updating. However, if it bugs you do the following:

1: Click start
2: Go to Control Panel towards the right side
3: In Control Panel, click on the icon called "Security Center"
4: Towards the bottom, one of the options underneath "Manage Security Settings For" should have a button "Automatic Updates"
5: From here you can specify how you want updates to occur.

The default recommended option automatically downloads the updates at a specific date and time and then installs them. The other options will allow you to either download but not install until you say so, or it will notify you of and update and then you choose when to download and install.

I'd stick with the last option because unless you have your computer on at a specific time, it doesn't always do you good. The second option may be a burden if you have a dial up connection. The last option at least will notify you before you download.

Ok. I have a windowx xp media center desktop PC and am here to help!, first off - let it update. The laptop needs to update itsself as the OS does as well. Do not try to stop it from doing so, because it could foul up the wholoe laptop and actually end up replacing it. If it is a case where it is not a crucial update (such as for a game,etc...) than don't worry about it and close it right away.

If you can't get ridd of this update screen than it maybe an important update.

You just have to let it finish...or push down and hold the little button on the top. But asa you restart your laptop so will the updating.

it depends.....if it's microsoft update; leave it go. when it's ready (finished dwnlding) it mite say ....'restart your comp'r...) if it's something else, that you know you have installed (anti-v. firewall, or other software update) let that finish to.. if it's not clear what ya got goin on,,,,,it mite be something you don't want. in that case start in safe mode (via F8 key) and try to determine what is trying to update..... know what is trying to get out/back in (a firewall log will help on that)
