None of the above - - - have you ever tried to dye wool? Other than white or a variation of white the easiest colors to create are red black yellow and green. I am not sure what text you are referring to when saying that 'Spartans' wore red, but if they did it was because the red dye was cheapest and on the battle field RED is a terrifying color - - - it is one of the more striking hues on the battle field. But the answer is, the dye was the most cost effective for their needs, and secondary, red is a great color on a battlefield. Actually many Spartans fought bare a s s naked - - - they had a lot less hang ups about nudity way back then. Before Christians came along and said that bodies were shameful ugly hings best hidden away. Peace.

I'd like to know what sculpture/painting/Frieze from that actual period You saw that made You think Spartans dressed in Red? Spartans dressed just like Athenians, Argosians, Corinthians, etc.

There were not so much colors that were cheap in that time and red is the color of blood which should frighten the enemy.
