It seems that some seniors these days perfer to be called seasoned citizens. They are offended by what they think that title refers to. I can remember when I was little, I thought my grandparents were old. They didn't walk around the block (or anywhere), they puttered around their houses. Today's seniors are a lot more active and fun than senior citizens were just 30 years ago. So ask them what they prefer to be called - some might laugh and say seasoned citizen or an old geezer (my dad says old fart).

No one wants to get old. Im almost 50 but I am in good shape and still have a young mind. I've earned a few gray hairs in my 21 year employment but am well respected. I wouldnt mind a free hoveround myself. Those things can move.

I would assume that when you reach old age years in life, you take certain phrases applied to you as reminders that you will be saying goodbye soon. A lot of older people don't want to feel isolated from society. In all actuality, they should see certain things we as younger people say to them as compliments and that we are giving them honor. I guess we will never know what they really feel until we walk in their shoes.

your additional detail said it all. no one likes to admitt they are old. you will find this out if you get that far. alot of them have a younger mindset, theyre bodies are old, but theyre mind isnt. it would be like one of us saying to you, your too young you dont know ****. wouldnt that piss you off? i am 3 months away from being a certified, card carrying senior citizen. i think its funny, but not everyone sees it that way.

We "Oldsters" don't all get mad being called "senior citizens" but I bet some "youngsters" get upset if we call them "Kids" or "young folks". It all depends I guess :-)

I don't see why they should, but at the same time, I don't blame them. Someday, I'll be just like them, if I live that long.
