Speculation about her sexuality has whirled around her for more than a decade (even prompting a 1996 British documentary about her status as a lesbian icon). Through it all she has maintained her right to keep her private life private. (And frankly, after the whole John Hinckley thing, if anyone deserves the right to privacy it's Foster).
The majority of her films are ripe for lesbian appropriation. Her protagonists are consistently strong and independent, frequently lacking a male love-interest, and quite often have a primary relationship with a woman friend or colleague ("Nell," "Little Man Tate," "Silence of the Lambs," "The Accused," "Foxes"). And then of course there are the films where she actually plays a lesbian character ("The Hotel New Hampshire," "Siesta"). If you've never seen the scene where she pretends to be a lesbian -- flirting with a dyke customer in "Carny" -- you need to run out and rent it right now.

I don´t know, and either way
it would not change my appreciation
for her talents as an actress and
director. She's very intelligent;
has kept her life as far from the tabloids
as she can. She has a son, and the last
tidbit, in 'Ana and the King', the soldier from
the French delegation visiting the king, was
her boyfriend, who is actually french. She
speaks fluent french, one of her passions....
So, who knows?
