The knob is there to turn on your headlights and tail lights at night. DRL equipped vehicles do not turn on the the tail lights when the DRL are illuminated, with the exception of those with automatic light control.

DLR daytime running lamps are on all the time the parking brake is off and car is running. Knob on the dash of my 2006 Pontiac GTO allows me to over ride the DLR'S and go to lights ft and rear or select "auto light " which I prefer because they go on at dusk or as I pull out of the 7/11 at night no thinking necessary.

Technically your running lights are not your headlights. Realistically, the running lights are headlamps on a very low output beam that stays on as long as the key switch is on and the parking break is not applied. Hence you can control the actual headlights (high and low beams) by the headlight switch. when the switch is on, you no longer have the running lamps lit.

MOST daytime running lamps are not at full lighting capacity. There is a resister that makes the lights dimmer than normal if they where on.

This feature makes it easier for construction people to see you. It is easier because you do not have to go through the hassle of turning them on while going through construction.
Day time running lights are just like a dim low beam so they would not be bright enough for night time driving.

So, do you use the knob to control your brights? Maybe you can't switch them on unless the knob is pulled?

YOu know, that is a very good question. I have a ponitac grand am with the same. I guess you have to actually turn the lights to "on" if you want to use your brights.

they are a different bulb and different light, cuz they are on all the time they burn out faster, so you dont need to keep buying headlight bulbs, they are seperate from the headlight bulb
