My friend and I have been feuding over this stupid question for awhile. I say Lebron, but he says Carmelo b/c of his quick 1st step. We even went as far as defining athleticism itself.

It's not a stupid question, but I believe that you win this unprovable argument, hands-down at that.

Carmelo's an excellent young player, but I don't know that anyone in today's NBA combines strength, speed, quickness, body control and leaping ability like Lebron. In fact, for athleticism, I'd probably factor D-Wade and Kobe in before Carmelo.

I don't know anything about basketball!I think Lebron James is more athletic as he is taller. But Carmelo Anthony is slightly better looking than him.

I'd say Lebron, because he has way less body fat. Carmelo isn't as ripped as Lebron.

Lebron looks a lot lighter on his feet too, like he has total control of his body, like a well-oiled machine.

Look at the minutes played per game stats, that might tell you something: who plays more - takes less breaks.

LeBron is much more quicker, stronger, faster, agile, limber and leaner than Melo. And LeBron has just a good of a first step as Michael Jordan when he was 21 years old.

i'd say lebron. lebron is quicker and more athletic compared to carmelo. you can see it during games. lebron is always ready for a highflying dunk. his speed for his size is crazy. its evident in their stats. its hard to define what athleticism is, but once you watch them play you'll see how much more exciting it is to watch lebron.
