The Slavs. They were people who mainly disseminated through Northeast Europe . At present they form different nationalities such as Russians, Ukrainian, Polish, Croatian, Moravian, Serbian, Slovenian, Serbian, Czechoslovakian.

Hoping this helps.

My ancestors are Hungarian and my surname is Croatian. Supposedly Asiatic tribes wandered toward Europe over 1,500 years ago. At some point the various groups split and continued their journey.

The resulting nationalities are: Finns and Estonians in the north, Hungarians in the center and Turkic peoples in the south and Mediterranean area.

I suspect (but have no evidence) that Croatians are part of that "Hungarian group" of settlers, but instead of adopting Ugric language and cultue, they opted for a Slavic-based language.

It is interesting to note that both Hungarians and Croatians are fervently Roman Catholic.
