ok im doin test corrections for extra points and i can't find the answer to this:

A major goal of the French in wanting to maintain conrol over the Ohio Valley was to:

prevent attacks by the native americans
eventually expand into canada
merge its landholdings from Canada to the Mississppi Valley
exploit the lumber trade

I guess exploit the lumber trade would be the best answer, but it was more for the beaver. If they controlled the land they could gain economic profit off of it to return to the mother country. At that time it was the beaver trade that was most popular.

Here are why the others are wrong:
1- they could care less about the Native Americans. They didn't want to be attacked, but not taking their land would've done that. Instead they kept on pushing.
2- they were already in Canada. Quebec and Montreal were held by the French
3. They explored and settled the land already.
4. Has to be. It wasn't the primary reason, but the main reason was economics and this is the only economics answer.
