Mary Kay Inc. is asserting that for the year 2005 Mary Kay was the best selling brand of facial skin care, eye makeup remover and lip color (including lipstick, lip gloss and lip liner).

I asked the company that puts out that study that Mary Kay is basing their claim on and they informed me that "The figures you refer to are at the manufacturers' level. This represents Mary Kay's sales to the reps. Other brands are also compared at the same level (from the company to the retailer)."

What this means is that Mary Kay has sold more products in those categories to its consultants than other companies have sold to their retail outlets.

Mary Kay Inc's website says that last year they had over 2 Billion Dollars in Sales to Consultants.

I am a Mary Kay consultant and I have nothing in my basement collecting dust, but I have about $2500 retail in my office.
There are many ways to sell Mary Kay I do not understand people who get stuck with these great products.

The company likes the consulants to have on hand anything that the customer needs, so they don't have to wait for it. That adds up to alot of different cleaners, moisturizers, foundations, eye shadows, lipsticks, ect. for everyones skin tones. Only our tax man know at the end of the year how much we have on our shelves waiting to be sold. And we're only to have one big sale a year.

I am currently a Mary Kay Girl and I love it. You don't have to keep a lot of inventory on hand although some girls choose to but as company policy you don't have to this is your personal business and its your choice I just wanted to let everyone know that Thanks!!

Wow! What MK is asserting is definitely a misrepresentation to the public. As you said, maybe the consultants are forced to purchase the items, but not necessarily the consumers. There are so many quality brands are out there now.

None as I got out of it - but if my upline had her way, I would have tried taking out a bank loan to have inventory on my hands.

Then, I would have had to build a basement to put the product in.
