Regardless of the size, she should consult her gynecologist immediately! She needs to have a mammogram or an ultrasound to determine if it is malignant or benign. Please tell her not to play around with this and get medical help.

Good luck and best wishes!

She should NOT go to the ER for this. Emergency physicians are not trained in screening or testing for breast cancer and it would be a waste of an ER visit. Her primary doctor or gynecologist are much more trained in this issue.

The size of the lump does not matter because bad (and not so bad) lumps come in all shapes and sizes. She should make an appointment with her doctor sometime soon and have it checked out. If she is under 35, she will likely need an ultrasound if her doctor is concerned because before that age, a mammogram is difficult to interpret because the breast tissue is too dense. Her doctor may feel like it is a normal finding and may not want to do any imaging, but she should have it seen. Tell her to make an appointment next week...but I really wouldn't go to the ER for this, it will cost you money and time, and it will not be much help in the long run.

A "lump" does not necessarily mean cancer. This would be on the small size. Most small round, mobile breast masses are benign fibroadenomas. You do not give any more specifics about her age, hormone status, family history, but to be sure, schedule an appointment with her primary care physician, who should order mammogram, ultrasound and perhaps needle biopsy or aspiration.

I agree that this is should NOT be an ER visit, that is an incorrect use of emergency providers.

It's pretty small. She needs to go to your family doctor or ob/gyn and insist on a diagnostic mammography. A diagnostic mammography has the radiologist read it immediately and give her a diagnosis as soon as possible, rather than just going to the bottom of the pile and taking a few days to be seen. That way, they can schedule a biopsy if it's needed, before she leaves the office the same day.

this is considered to be small (eraser= about 4-5mm)
regardless of size she should have it checked
physical exam then mammogram then ultrasound or biopsy
the good news is that most lumps in breast ar bening, other good news is taht even if this is cancer it is small and hence most likely completely curable with excellent succes rates

Your wife should get it checked out. Her age and family history may answer some questions as well. I too found a lump and turned out to be an over sized limph node.(excuse my spelling if not correct).

Its not little. But there are lumps that are found which are bigger when first discovered. But she needs to see a doctor now.Find out what it is.Breast cancer can be removed and a woman can survive, but don`t wait if it`s cancer it will get bigger and become more dangerous as it can travel to other organs in her body.Good luck.
