At work, so many people complain, including myself. I love what I do, but the politics of the office are crazy! I know in that what I do improves other people's lives and that is what makes work worthwhile. I tell others that the majority of people hate having to work and to get over themselves. Make the best of what you have, at least you have a job! Am I out of bounds?

I can certainly empathize with you. I too love my job and feel that although we all have bad days, overall we should be thankful that we do have a job and that we are able to help other people. I don't think you are out of bounds. I think you make a lot of sense.

I hate my job. I hate every day that I have to show up. I am normally a happy person by nature and love to make others happy as well. That's a great feeling making others smile and I am good at it. It's usually very easy. There is just an enormous amount of negativity flowing from my coworkers and it is jealousy based. That is very hard to overcome. I get along good with my boss and I think that is the source of the jealousy. I have one superior between the Boss and him. It starts there and feeds down. The Boss deals directly with me on several projects that supersedes whatever second in command says. That's OK. I can deal with that though. It's just a temporary pain in the butt. I am presently taking steps to get out of my situation and I am making headway. It's very exciting and it feeds my desire for a better life which in turn leads to action. Use the bad to create good in spite of the bad. All without stepping on other coworkers.

I work as a nurse in a nursing home.To some people, they might consider it a horrible and depressing job But that is not the case for me,I get a great personal reward from helping others.particularly the elderly,
The elderly population gives something back to the general population...knowledge.
Also, its like having 30 grandparents...each one a little different.
They still have lot of love to give and make a positive contribution to society.
At the end of the day, I leave satisfied that if I have made a positive contribution to their health care and well being.ad I am thankful.

I LOVE my job! I take care of babies and toddlers in a daycare setting for a fitness club. The woman I work with is great! It's just me and her, and no bosses. I don't have to work too hard. The mom's drop off the babies for about a two hour work-out, and then come back. it's fun to do crafts with the kids, and they genuinely seem to love me! They scream and holler, when they see me, and run to get hugs and kisses! I love to see the artist in them, and they are so funny some of the things they say and do. I get paid very well, because I have a college degree. I'm sorry not everyone is happy in their job.

my job sucks, but i like the people i work with. ive noticed that in all the places ive worked, the politics are bad news and its best to distance yourself from them if possible. every company has an ****** or 2,most of the time you can ignore them. remember tho, not all people have rewarding jobs. some are really nasty and alot of people dont get paid what theyre worth. they have a ligitimate gripe. i think it depends on your working environment. are you sitting in an airconditioned office all day, or do you have a physically taxing job under unpleasant conditions. i dont think your out of bounds with office jobs, the others, maybe.

I agree that a job is mostly what you make it. If you respond poorly to situations you frequently encounter in your line of work, then it may not be the right line of work for you. I very much enjoy my job, and it is rare that I feel badly about the environment I am in. As for telling others to get over themselves, that might not go over well with them. See if you can help distract them by getting them to talk about something they enjoy, so they are less aware of factors which drive their whining. And yes, by all means, they should be thankful they have jobs. If their job makes their life "tough," they should see how they like their life with no work....

I love it!!! I work at the concierge desk in a hosp. It is not a glorified finger-pointing job, believe me. I help people get to where they need to go. I answer the phone and put them in touch with the correct person. I protect the patients privacy ALL THE TIME. When someone is upset, I try to help them. I know who to put them in touch with who will help them solve their issue. I am VERY aware of what is going on around me. I have seen patients who have gone under the radar, and are in the lobby or outside....I gently find out their name and then notify the correct nurses station what is happening. There are SO many things I do on this job. It fulfills me. I get to work a 12 hour shift tomorrow!!! If my luck holds out, I'll get 12 more on Sunday. I am very fortunate.

That's a great philosophy, but probably not a great idea to hit people in the face with it.

After working for the same company for 22 years, and being probably one of the biggest complainers, I've realized that people just need to vent once in awhile. If it's like my work place, and there is enough privacy to be able to do that, people tend to be happier about their jobs.

So you can just smile and nod, you don't have to agree with them, and it's probably better not to-- then you can't get reported for saying negative things. But leave them be. They need to vent.

I wouldn't say you're out of bounds because you do have a point. But since I live with someone who doesn't like his job and doesn't have a lot of options, I can tell you that it's hard to drag yourself to work each day if you don't like what you do or where you work. But like you, I'm lucky. I love my job. Maybe you can gently suggest to your complaining co-workers that maybe they should rethink their career.
