In my opinion your grandmother said that to you because she really meant it. Being able to take you and your uncle out to dinner is probably the only way that your grandmother can show you she cares. I don't think you didn't do anything wrong. It probably made her happy that you enjoyed yourself with her and she was able to get you what you wanted. I think you should call her up and say thanks when you get a chance. I would.

No you did not do anything wrong just youneed to be savy about thing. You noticed that your uncle and grandma got less costly items on the menu I think his was around 6 to 7 dallors hers around 8 and your at $12 to 13 I guess that is what he got heated about Mostly what I do in that case if someone saids that I wait and see what the one that said that orders and order something around that price or lower if that person does not pick up on it and say it is ok if you want to buy something more. but I think I would write grandma a note saying that you had a fun time with her and you did not mean to offend in any way if you did say your sorry and then mail it to her and show your uncle to I do not know I just think that is a classy way to mend bridges then I guess it is between your uncle and grandma not a heated talk but just a mis-understanding talk.

Try talking with your grandmother first, please do not jump to asumptions to what your uncle had said .Or if talking is difficult for you then simply send her a lovely thank you letter and that you would love to have the chance to soon catch up with her and maybe have lunch. Maybe at your home or find out what she would like to eat or do. The foces now should be connecting with someone you rearly know, dont stress . Remember though give yourself and her time . I now when I go to visit someone I respectfully always address to suit them , simply because you are going to there space . GOOD LUCK..........

General rule of thumb when someone else is buying- Order form the middle price range of dinners. If it is someone you know well and they say order anything you want and you know they mean it ...go to town. But since you say you didn't know her well, you should have followed the gen. rule.
However, did your grandmother seem upset? If not I wouldn't keep worrying it to death, just next time do it a bit differently.

Well, it is sort of tacky to order the most expensive thing on the menu when you don't know the person very well. It probably would have been wiser to order something else.

She said to get whatever you wanted. I would have done the same thing. Hell If it was a big deal you could have offered to pay for your own because you wanted a steak.
But like you said she said to get what ever you wanted.

yes u did!
next time, stay away from the most items on the menu, if u aren't the one paying for it. it looked like u were cashing in on the person's hospitality.

Maybe you ordered something a bit expensive, making her pay for it.
