As of now, NO the minimum wage bill didn't pass this time.

G. Bush Would normally resist raising it until the last minute before he leaves office but with Condi running in 08 he will hold off indefinitely and allow Condi to use it as a campaign issue in her favor since a Black Female Republican who also wants to increase the living wage would be a shoe-in.

Congress has not passed this bill.

Many states have minimum wages that are higher than the federal minimum wage, I don't know what is currently going on in Michigan's state congress.

Most minimum wage earners (outside of people in the tip industry, who are exempt) tend to be young people in HS/College.
Historically, a hike in the minimum wage has caused greater unemployment of people from 16-21 as they are now more expensive to employ.

That 5.15/hr may suck --- but hopefully it is driving you to be successful.

You won't like this answer but this is where it's at... Democrats have long tried to raise the minimum wage despite Republican opposition. The Democrats sponsored a bill to raise the minimum wage and put it before the house (Congress). The Republicans, as usual, decided to play dirty pool with this issue; they added a completely irrellevant clause to this bill, approving a raise in minimum wage, while attatching a clause that does away with inheiritance taxes for BILLIONAIRES! Then the Republicans passed it and sent it to the Senate.

Meanwhile Senate Democrats (who very much want the minimum wage to go up) are vowing to defeat this bill because of what the Republicans attatched to it. This bill will not pass the Senate.

This way, in 2008, the Republicans can say "I voted to increase the minimum wage and this Democrat who is running against me, voted against it, he doesn't care but I do." And the Republican voters will buy this, just like they buy Bush and all the crap he shovels, and all the bold faced lies he told against his opponent in 2004.

If you're Republican you'll hate this answer because I just dumped on them AND you aren't getting that raise, (if you're Republican, it serves you right). If you're Democrat you won't like this answer because you still aren't getting that raise. I guess you'll just have to embezzel a little more money. Sorry. (What did you do with it, buy pot?)

There are two different wages in bills going through Senate and the House. Neither has passed both houses or been signed into law by Prez Dubya. Write your Sentors and Congressional reps and tell them how you feel!
