In 629 A.D. Xuan Zang came to India from China along the Silk route into Central Asia passing through Tashkant, and Samarkand. He reached Bamiyan the following year. He stayed at Nalanda university for two years and went back after visiting Orissa, the place of Lord Buddha and went back in 645 A.D.
