Colonialism is the extension of a nation's sovereignty over territory beyond its borders by the establishment of either settler colonies or administrative dependencies in which indigenous populations are directly ruled or displaced. Colonizers generally dominate the resources, labor, and markets of the colonial territory and may also impose socio-cultural, religious and linguistic structures on the conquered population; this has led critics of colonialism to call it cultural imperialism. However, though colonialism is often used interchangeably with imperialism, the latter is broader as it covers control exercised informally (via influence) as well as formally. The term colonialism also refers to a set of beliefs used to legitimize or promote this system, especially the ethnocentric belief that the mores of the colonizer are superior to those of the colonized. Such beliefs are often a form of racism, and were codified as pseudo-scientific theories at the end of the 19th century. The historical phenomenon of Colonisation is one that stretches around the globe and across time, including such disparate peoples as the Hittites, the Incas and the British. European colonisation may be broadly divided into two large waves, the first one starting with the "Age of Exploration" and the beginning of the Columbian Exchange, and the second one beginning in the second part of the 19th century with the New Imperialism period. Colonisation and decolonisation have overlapped themselves, since most of the New World colonies had already acquired their independence when the scramble for Africa and the New Imperialism began. However, many authors argue that colonialism doesn't end with the decolonisation, largely achieved in the 1960s apart from the Portuguese colonies: neocolonialism is a form of continuing colonialism by other means, while postcolonialism refers to the legacy of colonialism on the "subaltern subjects", as Gayatri Spivak has put it.

all land is stolen when it comes to human beings.
its just a matter of who has the balls to take it from somebody else.
besides if you feel that bad about stealing this land, spend a few hours in an Indian casino and blow your life savings.
that should cure you of any guilt you ever had about land snatching.
besides it was there fault for being on the europeans land before they got here.

South America is stolen land too. In fact, much of the land on Earth has been stolen or fought over by someone else. Ownership of something is relative to the cultures involved with that decision, and what they plan to do about it.

We brought them technology too, if it weren't for the Europeans they would probably still be living in Teepees, and hunting with bows, sothey can just shut up about that. Secondly, the Gov. of Canada is repaying the DECENDENTS of the aboriginals that we actually owe. So the indians now are just reaping the rewards that they most certainly don't deserve, but their ancestors did.

No!!! And yes the Indians get paid every month and have free land called reservations. I live in Montana and see these reservations and wish for there own good the government would stop paying them and force them to get jobs and stop there drinking. Indians are very good workers if they want to be but the government makes it too easy.

The land belongs to itself, humans just infest it..Like fruit flies owning the orange. I just occupy my place..I pay taxes on it, I pay fees to fix it, I pay for the privelege to live here, but the gov't and the bank really own it..And they can be tossed out too, then someone else will pay. Also the natives came here to from somewhere. Maybe the last dinosaur owns it all..
