HOW-TO:
Wet your armpit.
You can use shaving cream or just regular soap (I use soap).
Lather up the cream/soap and spread over the hair.
VERY carefully shave in both direction (first down, then up).
Rinse off the cream/soap.
NOTE:
No it will not take away the hair completely. It will grow back, just like on your legs. Getting rid of hair completely requires specific lazer surgery which will cost you A LOT of money. Stick with the razor.

The root is below skin level. Shaving won't affect the root in any way whatsoever. If you use a cream hair remover like Nair it will remove the hair from SLIGHTLY below the surface, giving you that hair-free look a day or two longer. Waxing will pull the hair out from the root. Try the new Nair Cire Divine wax, which is a hot wax. Hot wax is different from warm wax, because it hardens on the skin and is pulled off without the help of a strip. I've been using this on my bikini line, and it works really well.
If you actually want to KILL the root, you'll need either electrolysis or laser. Both will require multiple treatments.

I use Nair on my legs and arm pits, in 4 easy minutes you get in the shower wash it off and come out with smooth legs and pits. It last longer then shaving too. If your skin is sensitive Nair may not be the best for you, Avon has a product that is a hair remover for sensitive skin that works wonders also. Plus Nair is a lot less painful then wax, the other hairless method.

Shave against the grain. Put on a little pressure, but not too much.

I have the EXACT same problem!!!!!!!!! One thing that has helped me, though (but not eliminated the problem altogether) it to shave up, down, then side and side. It helps get most of those little hairs that just won't go away.
Looking forward to other people's answers . . . lol! good luck.
