Yes. I've worked for some conservative companies who required you to keep tattoos covered at all times. Someone I worked with was fired for having a tongue stud.
And FYI, having or getting a tattoo is not one of the very few prohibited reasons for firing someone.

I would think it depends on the tattoo, and the type of job as well. If your applying at a tatto parlor or a gym, or a bar...some place not so conservative I would think a tatto wouldn't matter. If you are applying as a public representative and your tattoo is offensive you might want to throw some make up on it during business hours, and there is make up specifically designed for concealing tattoos. So basically you can easily have your cake and eat it to on this issue.

I could see someone not getting hired if the interviewer is so small minded to see that and not your credentials, but who would want to work in a place like that anyway? As far as getting fired, I think that would be extreme, and an employer would have a hard time justifying it.

Visible tats can be a deal-breaker depending on the job. I work for PetSmart, and those are not allowed, or must be reasonably covered there. They even limit us to one earring per ear. I love tats and piercings, but I also love my job, so I choose my battles. If you are interested in having a "real" job, forgo any tats visible in a short-sleeved shirt (or long-sleeved if you can handle that in the summer). If you have any tats on your legs, stick to pants or skirts long enough to cover them. Frankly, tats are NOT professional, no matter how beautiful they are, and most companies do not think they have a place in their company.

My job is like that. Some men have tattoos on their arms and we all have to wear long sleeved shirts because of them.

Sure can. Well not some jobs but any that make lots of money absolutely. People who tend to have positions of power judge u first by your looks. So don't do it if you have not already. If you really want a tat pick a spot that can't be seen.

it all depends on your choice of careers and what the dress code is for that specific place of business. I have tattoos anh i'm in the medical field. I have to keep my arms covered because i have 2 small ones on my wrists.

To get the job, wear a watch or long sleeves. Then they can only tell you to cover it.

a tattoo anywhere can prevent you from getting a job or getting fired depending upon the employers policies

Absolutely -- depends on the employer. If they're looking for a clean, conservative look then you may be out. Also, typically sales jobs or jobs when you interact with customers may also want no tatoos.
