I think I must practice and not expect... goodness. Trying to guess other people's ethics is at best difficult. Furthermore, I think that good behavior is not a contest. If you were talking about competence, then I'd say that competition is healthy in order to achieve excellence in a society. However, ethics is the parapet that allows this same society to exist in the first place. Otherwise, it becomes a dog eat dog basket where everything crumbles down.

It's nice if it's so, but especially regarding performance.
It's not like if someone says you're "handsome" or "intelligent" that you did anything special to be that way--it was just karma and genetics.
But what I do feel good about is when I can realize that from my own effort I am better than myself one year ago.

Yes, you are obligated intellectually to be the best person you can be at all levels. Sadly, most of the rest of the planet is too busy subsisting.
The best measure of a person is how well you treat another who cannot do anything for you (I don't remember who said that but I've found it to be true).

I make the attempt everyday to be equal and feel that all are equal to me. Everyone brings something useful to the world and we are just needing to find it and acknowlege it
