I'm not a libertarian really, I think they can be a bit extreme, but I do vote for them sometimes, because I think they have some great ideas. I love the idea of really scaling back the government to basics. I think there is so much wasted money spent, especially by the feds, and I love that libertarians place a premium on spending money responsibly. I also like that they admit that the government can't usually spend money wisely, which no other party does. What I also like about libertarians is that they don't want restrictions on certain citizens. They don't want to restrict gay marriage, for instance, because they acknowledge that it isn't the government's job to tell someone who they can or can't marry. I agree with that 100%!
If only they supported public schools, anti-trust laws and some kind of updated foreign policy, I would be a libertarian myself.

libertarianism itself, I find scary. It's so far to the right and their overused mantra of 'personal freedom' is used by some to justify polution, child abuse, etc. (because the government should just be minding their own business).
Most of the Liber.s I've met have been extremely intelligent, and obviously don't wish to abuse their beliefs. Unfortunately, it's become a bit of the 'fad' party, specifically for those Republicians who think there's no fundimental difference b/w the reps and democrats.
Those 'fad' seekers aren't thinking through what they stand for, they're just all about lower taxes, smaller government, etc... even if they've never thought about what that truly means.
The world is more complex, and at best the Liber. point of view is a bit quaint. A world without a DOT, emminent domain, pollution controls, safety regulations for autos or kids carseats,... honestly the list can go on.
This is an unhappy, scary world.
In short, the Liber. party is the perfect party for the 1800's, but totally out of touch for the 21st century.

I served in the Army with Harry Browne who ran as the Libertarian Party candidate twice. We were both in the Army's Cryptography School at Camp San Luis Obispo in 1953. He was a very intelligent person as are most of the Libertarians I've known. However, I can't agree with many of their stances such as legalizing drugs. I have votedf for them in lieu of the so called "Two Party Candidates".

Yes, I are one! For many years. Anyone who respects the rights of others and believes that the government should serve the people instead of the other way 'round is a libertarian.

No. I'm not sure where they stand on most issues. I
do know they want to legalize marajuana (and perhaps
other harder drugs). I don't think this is a good idea because
we legalized alcohol and millions of people have died or have
been maimed by drunken drivers, families have been fractured
from one or more of the family on alcohol, countless monies
have been spent trying to cure alcoholics. So, let's not start
that same routine with marajuana. We should have learned
out lesson.

I think libertarians erase the highway lane stripes so people can drive wherever they want on the interstates.
